Friday, August 1st, 2008

These days you Acousticelectricguitar6066 not need to be a teenager to be trendy, everybody Nearlynewdesignerclothes4959 doing it. There is no age barrier any more as we move into the 21st century. My parents Frenchfashiondesigners1380 grandparents would not have worn three quarter length trousers Designerusedclothing1156 sandals unless they were on holiday abroad. Today they are common place almost every where Seosolutionsfj for all ages. I do smile sometimes when I see the old men with grey hair and they spike it up like a 6 year old would when trying to look like Beckham.

There is however some great fashion clothing, especially in surf and skate wear. Kids surf clothing is no longer reserved for kids. You do not need to know what an inline skate or body board is to wear surf and skate clothes. I did though see the other day an older guy skating along the promenade. He was wearing inline skates, three quarter length trousers and an animal sweat top. He must have been about 55 but did not look stupid or anything and I just thought, I wonder if I could do that now, never mind when I get to his age.

What makes things easier nowadays for the older generation to look trendy is of course the internet. You do not need to go into town to find surf or skate shops because there are plenty of them online. You can now surf with your credit card the Imitationdesignerbags7771 cheap online surf wear websites and kit yourself out nicely.

In reality what probably happens is mum is shopping for surf or skate wear for the kids or grand kids and thinks to her self, oh they look good and are reasonably priced, I will get one for the old man as well.

This is of course good news for the manufacturer and retailer. Their customer base has risen enormously without any effort on their part. Its all down to what I call the peter pan syndrome, if I look young, dress young and act young then I must be young. For the young at heart.

Impartial reviewer.com has Designerknockoffsunglasses3804 a number of sites that sell skate and surf wear as well as fashion and designer wear. If you are thinking about buying on line then take a look before you do and ensure you get the best price and service.

Clothing Labels and Care Labeling Rules

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

The most effective marketing tool to instantly grab the attention of customers is product labels, and if it’s a well designed one, it can help increases sales greatly.

However, in the case of clothing labels, the scenario is a bit different. Clothing labels are important but not necessarily the first thing noticed; and once worn, people rarely look at the tag stitched inside their pants or jacket.

But clothing labels serve a practical purpose … they help the consumer to determine the clothing size, fabric composition and the proper washing procedures.

The care label in a garment is a tag given to the product containing regular maintenance information and instructions. It is affixed in such a manner that it cannot be separated from the product under normal usage. This information is important as it guides the customer, providing rules and regulations for usage and maintenance of the product.

The rules for care labeling were decided upon by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) on Dec 16th, 1971 and were later amended in 1983.These rules require the manufacturers and importers of textile wearing apparel and certain piece goods to attach tags stating the regular rules for maintenance of the product. As per recent updates to the rules in 2000, the section requiring a “reasonable basis” for care instructions has been changed to clarify what is required.

When customers shop for clothing, care requirements play an important role in the decision making process as customers want to know the washing and regular maintenance instructions before purchase.

Different tag strategies reach those consumers looking for the convenience of dry cleaning and those who prefer the ease and economy of buying garments they can wash at home. Clothing labels are a deciding factor when consumers shop for clothing.

This is the reason that at times manufacturers provide more than one set of instructions. With washing options available, the manufacturers can successfully target different consumers. Some manufacturers also use an add-on tag like “For best results, dry clean.”

The care labels rule governs and is targeted to the manufacturers and importers of textile wearing apparel, manufacturers and importers of piece goods sold, and organizations that directs and control the textile apparel industry.

It is very crucial that as per the FTC, the clothing labels of a product provide:

1. Complete information and instructions about regular care for the garment and also provide warnings thereby cautioning the customers before purchase.

2. Provide assurance to the customers that if the instructions are carefully followed, you can keep from damaging the garment.

3. Ensure that the product provides specific detailed information for ordinary usage. For example: In case of clothes, the label should specify the washing method, type of water, method used for drying, whether the cloth can be ironed or not, and the temperature of ironing if necessary.

4. It is requisite that manufacturers use commonly used terms in the clothing label such that consumers can easily understand.

5. The manufacturer is only required to list one method of care that is safe.

6. It is required that the domestic manufacturers attach tags to finished products before they are sold, and that they are visible at the point of purchase. If in case it is not visible, it is required to appear on the outside of the package.

If a garment is manufactured and made up of several components, then there should be reliable evidence supporting the statement that the garment will not be damaged when cleaned as directed. Industry experience and expertise can solve most care worries before a consumer purchase.

Clothing labels are a deciding factor in the buying process. For http://www.abblabels.com that will last the life of the garment and for durable strengths and printing, contact A B B Labels online at http://www.abblabels.com for more information and to get a personalized quote.

Soma - For Exclusive Ethnic Stuff

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

What you see - After descending the Begumpet flyover, enter the first lane on your right. Nestled at the end of this small lane, Soma is the only store among a bunch of houses here. In fact, this place was also someone’s dwelling till about three years back (2003), when it got replaced with this store.

As we entered the gate, a watchman sprung from his seat to show us the way inside. And once indoors, the hundreds of wares, in this neatly done up air-conditioned store left us quite impressed. There is a Jaipuri aura, if you will, that the products here exude - be it in the traditional jootis or the massive range of quilts. It therefore, did not come as a surprise when the store manager told us that they source the products from Jaipur (they have their head office there too).

What you get - This is an all-ethnic store and hand block prints are its specialty. Many of the motifs here seem to have been inspired by nature - flowers, leaves, birds, seashells and the like. As for their product range, it includes home furnishings, crafts, clothing as well as accessories.

It’s the accessory section you first encounter here and believe us, their collection of attractive hand bags in brocade (Rs. 800-1,100) could sway you to purchase them. They even have exclusive jewelry pouches (Rs. 248) with separate sections to store your chains, earrings, rings and the like. Then there are luxury hand paper books (Rs. 400), authentic leather jootis as well as slip-ons.

The clothing neatly arranged in the white racks includes kaftans, kimonos and bathrobes. Then there are jackets, scarves, stoles and sarees in cotton, chiffon (Rs. 2,200) and Maheshwari silk (which is a combo of cotton and silk). You can also get crushed long skirts, cholis (blouses) that can be paired with sarees/skirts and lot of nice kurtas with mix and match options.

The kurtas over here come in extra small, small, medium, large and extra large sizes. Prints may differ for varied sizes though. So if you like a certain kurta but it is not in your size you may have to get it altered elsewhere. Soma does not take up alteration services. An interesting product here is the Soma Rider which is a combination of trousers and churidaar. These look quite trendy and are priced at Rs. 354. Kids from new-borns to six-year-olds also have some good cotton clothes to choose from here. Apart from that, do check out the charming hats (Rs. 200-250) and the puny bags that they have for the tiny tots.

Furnishings are another specialty of Soma. They stock up on the entire range of bedroom, living room, dining and kitchen furnishings. Some of the interesting things here include valance for curtains, tea cozies and table cloths (that can even fit 14-seater ones). They also have deck chairs (Rs. 2,500).

Our verdict - Soma has an impressive collection with a lot of variety to choose from; whether it is with respect to the kurtas, the Soma Rider or the home furnishings. The customer support staff comprises three people who have sufficient product knowledge. Parking is not a problem here.

Household Tips - Organizing Your Clothes Closet For Maximum Efficiency

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Plan your wardrobe

Reorganize your closet several times a year, making sure seasonal items are most accessible. Keep within reach garments that you may require for a business trip, dressy evening, funeral, holiday in the sun in winter, skiing holiday in summer, etc. After leafing through fashion magazines, try on your entire wardrobe at the start of every season; decide what fits, what is in fashion, what goes with what and what purchases you need to make to update your look.

Discard whatever doesn’t look fabulous (keep what you may wear in future and swap/give away what you will not).

Keep things handy

Place the clothes you are most likely to wear (i.e., your weekday clothes) at the center of closet. Place your weekend wear and nightwear on either side , and place the clothes you are least likely to wear (i.e., evening clothes, off-season apparel and accessories) in the least accessible location.

Maximize space

Divide your closet in three sections according to garment length: 1) pants hanging from the waist or hem, men’s suits, dressing gowns and evening dresses; 2) women’s suits and dresses; 3) jackets, vests, blouses/shirts, folded pants, skirts.

Superimpose two hanging rods in at least one of those sections. Place your shoes in shelving units on the floor (as many shelves as your need/have room for). Place your sweaters, T-shirts, folded shirts, handbags, hats in shelving units installed above the hanging rods (if necessary, keep a stool handy).

Save time

Group garments by color to find things more quickly without confusing navy blue and black. If looking right is of primary importance, group your garments in ready-to-wear ‘ensembles’.

Use the right hangers

Hang your coats and suits on wood hangers of the appropriate size, hang pants and skirts with the matching jackets. Use padded hangers for delicate fabrics, knitwear, evening wear and nightwear. To save space, place garments you wear less often on multi pant and shirt hangers.

Be ready at all times

Make sure your clothes are always clean and pressed/ironed and be sure to make repairs, sew on buttons, polish shoes/bags as soon as you notice something needs doing.

Keeping Up with Trends in Girls Fashion

Saturday, July 19th, 2008

One of the most important things to girls is fashion, particularly if a girl is in her teens and going to college where the majority of people talks and wears the latest trends and styles everyday. Here are some suggestions and tips on girls fashion, which will help you to stay up with the fashion trend throughout the year.

The majority of designers will take out at least two collections per year, spring and fall, while the rest will introduce four; spring, summer, fall and winter. With numerous different styles and unique designs for boys, girl, men and women you will notice that first and foremost it is very challenging to stay up with every seasonal trend for one primary reason; all styles do not work for everyone.

How many times have you watched a fashion show and thought; who can wear that dress besides a model. The reality of this is that some of those styles that are shown are made specifically for modeling purposes only and the entire selection is slightly different than what you actually see on the runway. Nevertheless, the number one most important rule is to wear clothes that suit your weight, height, character and personality.

Ways To Always Dress Fashionably

Classic fashion is always in style and if you do not want to make a lot of mistakes when dressing up for a social event, you can always rely on classic clothes. Nevertheless, girls are not always interested in wearing classic clothes so, what is the best way for them to always be fashionable?

An easy way to make girls fashion work well for you is to select from an assortment of clothing that suits you best. For instance, if a specific color suits you well, you can buy a blouse and wear it with a pair of jeans or black pants, which do not have to be in the same type of collection.

An additional way to keep up with the latest girls fashion is with accessories. This way you don’t even have to keep up the latest trends. It is important that you realize both good and bad points when it comes to your own body so you can work with it and improve you best features.

No person is perfect, including gorgeous models you watch on the runway, since they all have flaws that are cautiously covered up with either make up and/or the clothing that they wear on the runway.

Hence, you can make the fashion work for you by using accessories such as a scarf, belt, shoes or hair clips. Shoes are a whole other category when it comes to girls fashion and they function on the same principals of accessories and clothes. You shouldn’t acquire a pair of shoes simply because they are in fashion but because they work to complement your personality and style.

Sewing - The Why of Costuming - 5 Special Influences

Friday, July 18th, 2008

In the middle of a making a costume, do you ever stop and wonder how you got into this “mess”? How do you convince yourself that what you are doing matters?

Does anyone else care?

Do you consider yourself “insane” when it comes to your sewing projects? Have you wondered why you stress yourself out to complete a costume on time?

Many different answers can be given to these questions. We all ask ourselves: “Why am I sewing this project today?” and “Why do I love making historical clothes?”

Here are 5 ideas that answer the “why” we do the sewing we do.

  1. To escape reality and play “dress up”

Who hasn’t wished for that impossible, but thoroughly delightful, adventure of jumping into a movie scene or book page to become part of the story? Would you be the hero/heroine? How about the best friend? Or even the villain?

Honestly, why else do we toil for days and weeks to find a pattern, fabrics and trims, practice familiar techniques and learn new ones, and basically make ourselves insane with completing a historical ensemble?

You sit down to view the latest Jane Austen adaptation and then find yourself in love with a particular gown that you just have to have for yourself. Who cares if there is no other reason than to make something lovely to wear around the house. (Invite your friends over to view your latest vacation video over a scrumptious tea.)

Few opportunities present themselves in our current society, to vanish for a moment our 21st Century lives, and relive a part of history. You could be a Crusader in the 12th Century or Rosie the Riveter in 1944.

Even if you don’t celebrate the holiday of Halloween, the excitement of becoming someone else for a few hours is tempting and satisfying.

  2. For a social event

This may be the strongest motivator in creating clothing from the past.

The Victorian Ball is coming up, and you don’t want to be the only one in modern clothes. The Halloween party is an 18th Century masked ball. New Year’s Eve is calling for your appearance in a 1920s jazz dress. You’ve been invited to the local Civil War Blue/Gray Cotillion - period clothing required.
Making a historical outfit to attend social events with friends is a most rewarding part of this hobby. Embrace those whimsical costume parties and build your historical sewing techniques while having fun.

  3. For a reenacting event

For those with a love of historical information and a passion to share that knowledge with the current generation, you can thrive at living history events. Getting a chance to pass on what our ancestors lived through is a means to learn from the past to eliminate future mistakes.

What better way than to combine your love of history with your love of historical clothing! And you have a perfect excuse to wear your historical clothes more often.

Each event will have its own guidelines for accuracy. Some of you specialize in trying to get your period wardrobe exactly like the time you’re re-creating. But remember: you are a modern person and sewer; you can only get so close to duplicating the picture. But I say challenge yourself to it!

  4. To recreate a family heirloom or historical piece

Your grandparents’ 50th anniversary is next fall. You are planning the celebration - right down to the same cake and punch served.
Now you have to find a way to re-create your grandmother’s wedding gown. Perhaps you have only a photograph to rely on. Maybe you have the gown but the dear woman is not quite as skinny anymore.

Take this as a challenge to expand your sewing skills. Delve into the research of why the gown has lace only on the cuffs and neckline. Or why there was no lace on it at all.

Why does a bodice found in an old trunk at the estate sale resemble 19th Century styles, but has fabric that recalls the 18th Century? If you can get your hands on a provenance (accurate historical ownership facts regarding an item), then use that in your research. Once collected, use your new information to copy the piece.

  5. For personal achievement

If you are new to sewing historical styles, you may seek the challenge of completing a project that you can be proud of. Just for the sheer enjoyment of the process.

You may be looking for a new hobby to fill some free time. Everyone has their own personal interests of where they like to spend their time, whether that be sewing, music, sports, art, travel, etc. Perhaps historical sewing is an area that achieves personal fulfillment for you.

Or maybe someone has inspired you to win an award at an event. Take that challenge!

Whatever reason pushes you to sew up clothing styles from the past, take pride in your work.

When that deadline is approaching, come back to these special influences about why you are sewing a particular project. Know that making historical clothing sets you apart into a unique hobby.

Happy Sewing!

Steel Toe Work Boots

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

Steel-toed work boots are must-haves for people engaged in hazardous labor. They are specially reinforced to give the right amount of protection and comfort. But these days, steel-toed work boots are not only functional — they are fashionable as well.

Most steel-toed work boots are now able to strike the balance between toughness and comfort. They typically have cushioned forefoot and heel strike zones, so that the wearer can walk or stand in them for hours on end without feeling any discomfort. Most are also equipped with stabilizing heel cradles or molded polymer heels and forefeet, which help with overall posture. Most importantly, they have long-wearing outsoles that not only give superior traction, but also even footing. Waterproof leather is now also widely used.

Steel-toed work boots come with different price tags, depending on the brand, materials used, and overall functionality. You can get pairs with basic features such as leather uppers, padded tongue and collar, and basic thick rubber soles (plus heel) for about $40. Steel-toed boots with fancier features such as gel cushion insoles and water-resistant leather uppers (oiled with special chemicals) go for higher — about $100 and up.

Women who need steel-toed work boots never have to sacrifice style for functionality these days, because a lot of manufacturers have lines designed especially for them. Many steel-toed boots now have very fashionable patterns. The most popular designs are very lightweight and flexible, come with distressed leather foot and bull hide foxing, and have full-length mid-soles (with thermal plastic urethane support shank) to provide extra cushioning for a woman’s more delicate foot. The soles are also designed to be non-slip.
